Don’t Let Time Pass You By
At a work bridal shower, a co-worker said a few simple words to me that I will never forget. She said, “The only advice I have to give is to remember to look around.” It was strange that I never thought about her words until the moment my father took my hand, gave me a warm smile, squeezed my hand, and said, “Relax, there’s no need to be so nervous.” The church doors opened and we began to slowly walk down the aisle.
It was then that her words came rushing through my mind. Look around, I told myself. As I lifted my eyes and looked through the white veil, I saw it all. My wedding. I saw loved one as they watched me take the most important steps of my life. I looked around and saw him waiting for me.I saw my mother’s eyes, filled with tears, as she smiled at me. I watched my wedding and didn’t let time pass me by.
Many of my friends have gotten married since. Each time they ask for advice, I remember the words of my co-worker and I tell them… “Look around, don’t let time pass you by.”
