The kitchen is the heart of the home, so it’s where most people first start thinking of making changes. For some lucky folks, that means a total overhaul. Not ready for renovation? No worries! You can give your kitchen a brand-new look without spending a lot of time or money. Here are a few ideas:
- When linens, small appliances, and utensils need to be replaced, choose colorful ones to add instant pop. Consider painting the floor in an unexpected shade; it will instantly change the look of the entire room. If you’re not ready for that kind of commitment, add a colorful new rug but go with one that’s not traditionally for the kitchen like a beautiful Oriental rug.
- Cut clutter by storing seldom-used small appliance under counters – you’ll be amazed at the difference this one change makes in your kitchen’s overall appearance. Use the freed-up space to display colorful, mismatched dishes or pottery. You can turn any shelving unit into a plate rack by having molding cut to the width of the shelf and attaching with braces. Show off your favorite serving platters or novelty mugs on a wall ledge.
- Freshen your kitchen sink area by adding a back splash made from lots of different tile colors or even a mosaic. Not into DIY? Take the easy way out by buying self-stick adhesive-backed tile sheets! They can be used on the wall, too. You can also buy cut-to-fit decals to cover the dishwasher and fridge (Check out applianceart.com!).
- Swap standard cabinet pulls for bright, colorful replacements to add a pop of color or novelty. This little detail can transform the appearance of your whole kitchen! Look for other pulls, knobs and handles to replace, such as drawers, carts, and islands. There are all sorts of colorful and unique hardware accessories around today. You’ll never want to see another boring, basic cabinet pull again!
